Big Bass

★★★★☆ 4.4 Editor rating

Big Bass UK is one of those games I opened expecting five minutes and closed an hour later. It's a fishing simulator that leans into calm rather than chaos. You pick a spot, choose tackle, cast with a simple swipe, and then wait for the line to twitch. The whole loop is quiet, and that turns out to be the point.

The casting is handled with a single flick, and the strength of your swipe sets how far the lure goes. Reeling in a catch is a mix of holding and tapping, easing off when the fish pulls hard so the line doesn't snap. It took me a couple of tries to feel the rhythm, but once it clicked it became weirdly satisfying. Different waters hold different species, and the game gently nudges you to try new spots and gear.

On battery it's very kind, since the screen mostly shows a still scene with small animations. My older test phone barely warmed up over a long session. Settings let you dial down ambient sound if you want silence, and there's a one-handed portrait mode that works great on a commute.
